There are a few ways to recruit users for testing. If you are expecting users to come to you for the test to take place, the pool might be smaller than if you are recruiting for remote testing.
Recently remote testing has been more commonplace, and your participants need not be in the same place as your tester anymore.
To recruit for remote testing, there are several avenues you can explore:
- Recruiting participants through a panel/service (such as Askable)
Low cost, quick, good for recruiting geographically diverse participants - Inviting users through your website
Users already familiar with your product, can take a long time - Using lists of existing customers
In addition to the cost of recruitment, these methods should allow for some incentive to be provided to participants in the form of a voucher or discount.
More guerilla style testing can also be conducted by going where your customers are, such as a coffee shop, university, library or mall, and asking people to participate in a short test for a small token (such as a coffee voucher).
